Seventh grade art students were tasked with creating their name in a unique way. 2-point perspective is always a tricky drawing technique that takes practice to perfect. Once the confusion settles, the technique begins to fall into place. Students had to draw their names in block shapes, and give them depth by changing their image from 2D to 3D by putting them into perspective.
Putting the names at a corner is similar to street scene perspective drawings, where we would usually draw buildings along a street. The names were the main subject, and students had to show value by shading the letters in light and dark values of the same or similar color. Then, they added Zentangle-style patterns around their names to add interest and contrast. The contrast between the 3D names and the black and white patterns allows for their names to pop.
