8th grade students analyzed the work of Alberto Giacometti, noting how his figure sculptures were tall, slender, and surreal. Because of time constraints, we made miniature versions of Giacometti figures showing movement. Copper wire was formed into a figurine. Newspaper was wrapped around the wire. Masking tape sealed all paper and wire in the figure, and plaster strips covered the entire figure sculpture. Plaster strips added a nice textural quality to the sculptures. We painted the sculptures in a solid metallic color and attached it to a white base.
Materials: copper wire, wire cutters, newspaper, masking tape, plaster fabric (cut into strips), water, hot glue, white and assorted metallic acrylic paint, cardboard
