Students learned about symmetry and balance, which are components of the Principles of Design. We looked at examples of radial symmetry that are found in nature: shells, snowflakes, spider webs, flowers, etc. We also looked at works of art that featured radial symmetry, including the Rose Window in the Notre Dame Cathedral, and several other works of art. To personalize their designs, the students chose a word associated with them, such as a first name or nick name.
