After a rigorous Elements of Art "boot camp," 6th-8th grade students put their new knowledge of the Elements of Art into an isometric cube that when put together, would create a large-scale collaborative mural. We were introduced to the artist, ThankYouX, who is known for his street art of grand-scale geometric cube murals incorporating abstract images and bright colors. His work is known and displayed world-wide.
Each class has 7 tables, so each table conveniently was given one Element (shape, form, line, color, value, texture, and space). The isometric cube template had 3 open spaces. The top space was left white for consistency in the design. The left space was the term drawn within the definition of the term (i.e. "Line" has lines in the word, "Space" has letters overlapping, etc.). The right side has a visual definition of the term they were assigned. So, 3D shapes for "Form," value scales for "Value," and so on.
Due to requests from faculty members who grew up playing video games in the 80s, Q-bert and some Coilys were added to the mural.
