6th grade: Toilet paper food sculptures! We looked at the works of Oldenburg and Theibaud, sculpture vs painting, 2D vs 3D... talked about artistic intent and the differences between the two artists, one being a Pop Artist and the other who is not--even though their subject matter is similar. Then we started sculpting! Students were surprised that they could work with T.P. in this way, and while it may be frustrating at times, it's not that much of a difference from trying to manipulate other materials into a 3D form. After we painted, we sealed the sculptures with matte Mod Podge.
Materials: Toilet Paper, water, hot glue, watercolor paint, matte Mod Podge
